The Great Ogden Report

May 15th   we arrived in Ogden about 8:30 pm.    Dustin the guy I went with is ready to go to bed!     I want to hit the Hot Tub and check out the party.      Ogden is an interesting town.   Not the kinds of place you want get lost in.  There are a lot of gangs and people looking for that special person to pay for their room for a night if you know what I mean!

Saturday 4 am came really quick.   But I was prepared.  Got on my special Race shorts that show a little leg.  (Got to show off for the camera)   most marathons give all the runners a timing chip.    However, this chip was almost as big as my wallet.  And I had to strap it on to my Ankle.    Felt like I just got out of jail and I had to ware an ankle locator.

We got on the Bus about 4:45 and off we went up the canyon 26.2 miles away from the finish line!   (My garmin said it was 26.8 miles how dare they make it .5 longer!)

When we arrived we were 1.5 hours before the start.    3000 runners all staring at each other in some farmer’s field!   And 50 Porte potties to share.      I ask myself why am I here?  I could be home sleeping!  .   The temp is about 40 degrees but the fire barrel is sending out terrific heat.

Finally the guy on the Mega phone tells us to get to the starting line.   The race will start in 5 min.

The Best of the Best start at the front.    I am not the Best of the Best.  But I am better then the guy in the clown suit next to me. (I hope)    It would not be good if some clown beat me!    I see Amber. She looks like she is ready to rock and roll.   I hope we can run together pass some of the long miles.

Bam the gun goes off and stangers are waiving me on!

Mile

1 6:29 pace.  Feeling good and running beside Dustin and trying to keep the clown behind me.

2. 6.29 pace.  (I have not been chicked yet,  so I am  feeling good!)

3. 6.29 again.   Here comes the chick!  Dustin asks if I am feeling good.  (I tell him to pass the syrup for my pancakes)

4. 6:28   Sill feeling good.  Only 21 miles to go!  Keeping the chick by my side. (I tell her she looks tired!)

  1. 6.26 feeling great. 20 miles to go!!  Woo hoo.
  2. 6:38 still feeling good.  Looking at the mountains. And wondering what is for lunch?
  3. 6:39  feeling good Still.  19 more to go.
  4. 6:52 slight hill this mile! (Looking for an oxygen tank. At the Aide station.)
  5. 6:59  (I should of just ran the half   what was I thinking?)
  6. 7:13 is there a Rest stop somewhere?
  7. 7:14 flat land (Is this Ohio?)    (I wish I could tap my Red shoes and be in ohio!)
  8. 7:08   I might of went out to fast!
  9. 7:16 Eden    a small town.  Sign say’s welcome to Eden  (13 miles to hell!)
  10. 7.15   Running around pine view Reservoir. I should have brought my fishing pole!)
  11. 7:40 small hill here.   I hope it is not hunting season I forgot my orange!
  12. 7:31 I think I went out to fast.   Slowing down.
  13. 7:27 water tastes like they got it from the lake!   Yuck!!
  14. 7:05 Hey where is the finish line!
  15. 7:21 I should be running faster it is down hill.   The legs want to leave me!  They are tired of supporting my fat butt!
  16. 7:26   not looking pretty!    Woman scream, babies cry and grown men groan as I pass by them!
  17. 5 miles to go.   Legs are gone.   But if I stop I will pass out.
  18. Keep thinking I will make it, don’t stop.
  19. Getting into town Yea.   Running past walkers and lots of half marathoners
  20. Passing High River.   I think I should jump in!   I winder if it goes by the finish line.
  21. Sasha   gives me some encouragement and tells me to keep going.
  22. The crowd screams, People clap as I make to the finish line.    Where is the med tent!     Where is the ice cream!

Quite the report. I hope you were having as much fun running as I was reading your report. Way to run.

Billy my man, Great race! When you were sprinting out at the start I was standing still in the mob. I made the mistake of starting in the correct area for my pace (8:00) but when I went across the starting line we were all walking still.....1/4 mile in and we are jogging at 10:00+ pace, nothing to do but hope it thins out soon. By the time it thinned out you were looking at Pineview, throwing in a line and munching on a burger. I actually enjoyed the lake water at the aid stations, they didn't want to over burden the water supply in Eden. I just want to know one thing, did you bounce down the road with the secret weapons? I didn't notice any parts on the road...just a lot of roadkill. I especially liked the dead deer as we jumped off the bus....was that your breakfast?

Great race! You flew!

Interesting read Bill. I knew I could count on you for some entertainment tonight. Who needs dish?

Good job man. I think that may be one of the best races you've ever run and you don't know it. With a solid finish like that under your belt early in the year your well on your way to getting the 3 hour monkey off your back for good this year at STG.

Hey Bill,

It's always a good time to read your race reports!!! :) Even your day to day reports for that matter . . . but GREAT race! Good job. I so wish I could have had it in me to keep up with you, but when you said you were going to keep it in the 6:45's I thought, , oh man, c-ya later! I knew you could keep it real out there, even w/ the gross water! It was awful! You'll get your 2:50 at SG for sure! Cause we have awesome water, no really there is just nothing like the SG marathon I've decided. We are lucky! Plus our timing chips don't weigh us down! :) Are you doing the Utah Valley marathon? Bryce?

Will you write my next race report? You were having way too much fun, good for you!!!

Great race, congratulations!!

Have fun running in St. George, I am jealous!

Nice write up Bill. I just can't believe you didn't mention how much fun we had driving up there and how I'm a master at Jeopardy. Sorry there were no rockin' parties at the Days Inn, sometimes you get what you pay for.

On to the race, I guess you were really doing a lot of thinking during this marathon to remember so many details.

I agree with Clyde this was a good race for you, especially with the foot issue. You are right you might have went out a bit fast, but that is sometimes hard to gage when you've never ran the full course before. I thought I was being really conservative in the beginning and still ended up running the second half quite a bit slower than I wanted to.

Get that foot healed up and get ready for a long, hot summer of training. Should be fun!

great job Billy boy. Fun stuff to read - can't wait to finally run with you again.

Only the World Famous Bull, could write a report like that! When we were talking after the race, I told you no one leaves it out there like you. You run to run period. You just have to respect a Animal like that. By the way, very good race! Unfinished business to be taken care of at STG. Looking forward to getting back after it with you, Yeeehaaaw!!

Oh Bill, what would we do without your daily/race reports? You ran a good race even with the tasty lake water weighing your stomach down. Get that foot healed so we can be graced by your aura this summer.

PS. I saw you eyeing those two good looking ladies in the hot tub at the motel. You do realize that Im married to one of them and the other is my daughter. :)
